Image of the Day caption:
On February 5, R/V Oceanus stopped on the Pacific side of the Panamal Canal for fuel while transiting from Woods Hole to the West Coast to begin its new life as the main research vessel run by Oregon State University. Tied up across the way was a familiar sight from Cape Cod, the T.S. Kennedy, which serves as the cadet training vessel for Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Kennedy happened to be passing through the canal in the opposite direction on the return leg of the annual Sea Term, a six-week working voyage designed to give cadets practical seagoing experience. Several graduates of MMA have gone on to serve on, and also captain, WHOI research vessels.
