Image Of The Day caption:
After 36 years and 500 missions for WHOI, the research vessel R/V Oceanus will be changing home ports and oceans. The 177-foot vessel arrived at WHOI in November 1975. Since then, it has supported research spanning all fields of oceanography and covered hundreds of thousands of miles in the Atlantic and Mediterranean, from Georges Bank to the Red Sea and south to the Sargasso Sea and the southern coast of Brazil. Today, the ship departs for its new home in Newport, Oregon, where it will be operated by Oregon State University to support oceanographic research in the North Pacific, replacing its sister ship, R/V Wecoma.
