Pilot Jefferson Grau discusses the submersible Alvins systems and capabilities with professor Diane Adams, of Rutgers University (left) and Professor Jen Glass of Georgia Tech (right). Alvin was in Woods Hole for maintenance work in November 2015. The Deep Submergence Science Committee (DESCC) took the opportunity to conduct a hands-on training boot camp for early-career scientists to learn how to plan and carry out a submersible research program. Grau led Adams and Glass on a simulated dive at WHOIs National Deep Submergence Facility.
