Heading Out Oden sailed this morning out of Longyerbyen harbor, down the Isfjord, and then headed north on the west side of Svalbard in open ocean, where waves splashed across the icebreaker's bow. Everyone tied down crates and equipment, in anticipation of rough seas. The sky and the ocean competed to see which could become grayer shades of blue. By tomorrow, we expect to reach the edge of the Arctic Ocean ice pack, a more comfortable place for the flat-bottomed Oden and the seasickness-prone people aboard.
