Image of The Day caption:
In this 1965 aerial view of Woods Hole, WHOI's three large laboratories, left to right, are visible: the Bigelow, Smith, and Redfield buildings. The research vessels Chain and Bear are tied to the WHOI pier, and Crawford is at the Dyer's ramp. Today, WHOI operates four ships, The Atlantis, Knorr, Oceanus and Tioga. Each of these floating laboratories carries a suite of sonar and bottom-mapping equipment, sampling gear, diving and small-boat launching facilities, and meteorological sensors.
Caption from Down to the Sea for Science, pg. 119:
In this 1965 aerial view of Woods Hole, WHOI;s three large laboratories, left to right, are the Bigelow, Smith, and Redfield buildings. The "white house" has been joined by several other pierside structures, and the Daley drugstore building still stands between Redfield and the Eel Pond Channel. Chain and Bear are tied to the WHOI pier, and Crawford is at the Dyer's ramp. The tall building at the end of the pier near Bier contained a large rotating basin and the long, narrow building behind it housed a flume.
