VERTICAL MIGRATION: UN CLIMATE WEEK ART INSTALLATION AND LIVE EVENT
The Vertical Migration projection shines on the facade of the United Nations (UN) Secretariat building during the 76th General Assembly and Climate Week in New York. WHOI collaborated with ocean advocates to bring the installation, by the artist group SUPERFLEX, to the UN to highlight the biodiversity of the ocean twilight zone and its role in combating climate change. To celebrate the installation, WHOI hosted the live virtual event, “Illuminating the Abyss” featuring special guests James Cameron, Ray Dalio, Edith Widder, and WHOI President and Director Peter de Menocal. Watch the live event and see a video of Vertical Migration in action. go.whoi.edu/illuminating-the-abyss

The Vertical Migration projection shines on the facade of the United Nations’ Secretariat building during the 76th General Assembly and Climate Week in New York. This installation by the artist group SUPERFLEX features a siphonophore—a creature of the ocean twilight zone and symbol of the many working as one. Vertical Migration seeks to draw global attention to the critical role of the ocean in global climate, a primary focus of WHOI’s Ocean Twilight Zone Project.
